The AN / PRC-77 "Army / Navy, Portable, Radio, Communication" was introduced to the US military in 1968 and replaced the PRC-25. The PRC-77 dual band radio comes with a frequency range between 30,000 and 75,000 MHz. The PRC-77 is battery operated and able to work with voice encryption systems, the range of the 77ers is about 8 kilometers.

The PRC-77 is still occasionally used by ground forces. The soldiers nicknamed it "prick-77".
